Listening to the television or stereo can be a frustrating experience for somebody with hearing loss, and turning up the volume can extend that frustration to friends and family members. The solution lies with the technology of wireless infrared and FM TV/stereo systems from manufacturers such as Sennheiser, Williams Sound and TV Ears. Listeners wear wireless receivers to listen to the program discretely, at the volume of their comfort level, without disturbing anyone else.
There are two basic types of TV Listening devices - Infrared (or IR) and Radio Frequency (or RF). Both type of TV Listening devices are wireless and both require a transmitter and a receiver. With an IR TV Listening System, you must maintain line of sight between the transmitter and receiver in order to receive the signal clearly. The RF TV Listening System, on the other hand, uses radio frequencies to transmit the signal from the transmitter to the receiver. Therefore, no line of sight is required and the range of distance is wider than the IR TV Listening System.
Please note: Infrared or IR TV Listening Devices are NOT compatible with Plasma and LCD televisions. |
